Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in New Hampshire

You recently left a residential treatment program, and you aren’t sure of the next step in your recovery process. Even though you have completed one level of treatment, there must be something more, right? You know you can return to work, but you also know you need support that works with your work schedule so you can maintain a sense of independence. You felt like you were missing that in residential treatment.

Your need for independence and help is where IOP can come in. In 2022, there were 701 suspected opioid overdoses in New Hampshire. People who return to use are more likely to experience an overdose. However, attending an IOP allows you to continue your treatment plan while moving forward in your life. Addiction Recovery Services offers IOP, but we also allow flexibility that suits those attending school or continuing to work. Here is how our Intensive outpatient treatment works.

What We Treat: Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Addiction Recovery Services

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a program that combines group therapy and other groups and therapies over a few hours during the day. Often, this program is 4 days a week, teaching skills that will help you along your journey to recovery. These skills come from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). You will gain a support system from peers who can help you along in your recovery goals.

How We Treat: Addiction Recovery Principles and How They Impact Our IOP in Greenland, NH

We hold deep, uncompromising beliefs that guide how we utilize treatments at our facility. Our treatments can include therapy, medication, and continuing care. Below are each of the beliefs we use in every treatment we offer.

Our most important belief is that respect is paramount with our patients, and it is an important aspect of a successful treatment plan. You can’t trust your healthcare professionals if they don’t understand your journey and welcome you with open arms. We listen to how you feel, how you are doing, and how it affects your recovery. Listening demonstrates that we respect you, and it highlights your dignity. We will listen to your goals and personally help you reach them.

A treatment environment that encourages choice will show improvements when someone has sought help. We give you a say in your recovery. Coping skills, medications, and community resources are available to you as part of your recovery. You get to decide which resources you will use.

You are the only one who knows all about you. An effective treatment must consider your needs more than anything else. Treatment is empowering, and we want you to experience the joy and pride that come with living a healthy and fulfilling life. Your changing thoughts and emotions will help you build healthy relationships and impact your interactions with the world.

Is IOP the Same as Residential Treatment?

A residential treatment program will require you to stay on-site. The time length of how long someone might remain at a residential treatment program may last anywhere from 1-2 months and depends on the individual needs of the person undergoing treatment at a residential treatment program. Residential treatment typically involves a detox period where someone will abstain from a substance. This process is often dangerous and uncomfortable, so it requires medical supervision. The person will sleep, eat, and attend therapy sessions while they are at the facility. The ultimate goal of this type of treatment is to give the person skills necessary for their recovery journey.

IOP, on the other hand, is an outpatient program that allows you to build your life outside of the facility. It provides the support that is necessary for ongoing recovery through group and individual therapy sessions and will typically last 4-8 weeks (or longer, depending on your needs). There are also typically fewer hours of treatment in a day than used at residential treatment programs. These fewer hours give you the freedom to continue your responsibilities, such as work or school.

What to Expect from IOP at Addiction Recovery Services

At Addiction Recovery Services, you can expect to attend group therapy three hours a day for four days a week. Most people participating in our IOP are in the program for five weeks. However, treatment can extend past five weeks, depending on your needs and progress. We also offer a no-cost weekly consultation with a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner. By providing medication-assisted treatment (MAT), we can help you continue the management of possible cravings and prevent a return to use.

Who Benefits from IOP at Addiction Recovery Services?

If you are wondering if IOP is the right fit, here is a list of people who generally benefit the most from attending IOP at Addiction Recovery Services.

• People who wish to continue working or living at home while in treatment.

• People who have returned from an inpatient or residential program.

• People seeking help for the first time might be uncertain of the amount of assistance they need.

• People with untreated mental health concerns alongside their substance use.

• IOP Isn’t the End of Your Recovery Journey.

• IOP is not the end of your recovery journey. Participating in our aftercare group can help you keep the momentum of your recovery. Anyone who has completed an IOP group is eligible for this group. This group costs $10, but we will not turn away someone who cannot pay the fee. We also host alumni events that allow people to stay on top of their health going forward.

Choosing to undergo treatment is a significant decision, but you’re not alone in it. It’s challenging to maintain long-term recovery, but it’s always possible, and we can help.

Frequently Asked Questions About IOP

  • What Level of Care Is Outpatient?

Outpatient care is best for those who still need help but do not require hospitalization.

  • Which Is Better, Inpatient or Outpatient?

Both inpatient and outpatient have their positives. An inpatient program can be a great starting point for those beginning their journey to recovery. It can allow you to safely stop your substance use if that is what they wish to do. However, staying at the facility for your entire treatment is required. An outpatient program allows you to go home at the end of the day. This level of care is often a step down from an inpatient program and gives you more freedom in your treatment plan.

  • What Is Considered Outpatient Treatment?

Outpatient treatment does not require staying at the facility while you complete treatment.

  • What Is Outpatient Treatment for Mental Health?

Outpatient treatment for mental health is a service that treats you for conditions such as depression, anxiety, or substance use disorders and does not require staying at the facility.
